WA: Smoke alarms could have prevented tragedy, fire official

A six-year-old boy's died in a house fire in Perth.

Firefighters say the boy was at his Gosnells home with his grandmother when the fire
started .. apparently in his bedroom.

Fire and Emergency Services spokesman ALLEN GALE has told ABC radio the woman suffered
burnt hands and smoke inhalation trying to rescue her grandson .. but the blaze was too
fierce and also beat back neighbours and firefighters.

Mr GALE says a simple smoke alarm could have made all the difference.
