Fayetteville Public Works Commission Selects Consert for Its Energy Management System.

Pilot Program with Consert Moves to Commercialization

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Raleigh-based Consert Inc., a provider of energy management technology for residences and small businesses in partnership with utilities, announced today that it has signed a commercialization agreement with the Fayetteville Public Works Commission (FPWC).

Consert provides real-time wireless energy management technology that allows consumers to conserve energy and present it back to the utility as a source of power generation to improve the efficiency, reliability and safety of electricity delivery and use. FPWC will offer the Consert Solution for voluntary adoption to interested residential and small commercial members.

"FPWC is thrilled to be at the forefront of this technology. With Consert, we have created another source of renewable, clean energy solutions for our community," said James Rose, FPWC Chief Administrative Officer. "Consert's technology gives energy conservation the attributes of generation and helps FPWC meet state mandated renewables and energy efficiency requirements. These benefits make Consert an ideal partner for us."

Through Consert, consumers can set daily use profiles on their high energy use appliances, check their energy consumption from any Internet web-portal and authorize FPWC to cycle their appliances off for brief periods during peak energy consumption events.

Prior to the commercialization agreement, FPWC conducted a 12-month pilot program with Consert, performing control events to briefly turn off high energy use devices during times of projected peak energy demand. These load reduction events enabled FPWC to realize a 50 percent reduction in peak demand among pilot participants, with a small, controlled recovery. In addition, pilot participants experienced average energy savings between 15 to 20 percent during summer months when compared to previous years' usage and adjusted for outside air temperature.

The success of the pilot led FPWC to receive the American Public Power Association's 2010 Demonstration ofEnergy-Efficient Developments (DEED) Energy Innovator Award which recognizes programs that have demonstrated advances in the application of creative, energy-efficient technologies to provide better customer service and increase utility operation efficiency.

"FPWC is allowing their customers to take control. With Consert, they will manage their energy consumption and at the same time support the future of energy integration and clean technology," said Jack Roberts, Consert CEO and president. "FPWC is a leader in public power and we look forward to helping them extend our technology to the broader community."
