Vic: Missing persons to get free bus ride home
People who have been reported missing are being offered a free bus ride home.
Launching National Missing Persons Week in Melbourne today, Victoria Police Chief Commissioner
CHRISTINE NIXON urged people who have turned their backs on their homes or have lost contact
with family and friends to let someone know they are safe.
And Firefly Express and McCafferty bus lines are offering free bus travel to anyone
who wants to return home.
Victorian police figures show that 5,497 people were reported missing in the state last year.
While more than 95 per cent were found, Victoria still has 600 unresolved cases dating
back to 1960.
Victoria Police have launched a special Missing Persons Unit to oversee investigations
and re-open long-term files.
Police are asking missing persons or anyone with information on missing persons to
contact them on 1800 000 034.
